Hey everyone, Lexi here. I hope everyone is doing good. This community sort of died, which is dissapointing...but, these things happen. Hopefully some people will keep our lovely experience of AFS Japan 2004 in their hearts! In anycase, this is just a little e-mail to let everyone know that at the end of this month, I will be heading off to Japan for the year. I'll be in Tokyo, studying at Sophia University. So, if you happen to find yourself in Japan....;) Just send me a message via LJ! >:D

Trilingual No More [Jan. 18th, 2006|07:59 pm]

Ever since I came to Argentina, I've slowly lost my ability to speak Japanese until all but a few catchy phrases escape me. 僕はダンテです。Is one of the few things I can manage to squeeze out. トイレはどこですか?Might also be useful. But I so strongly remember having had conversations in Japanese that it boggles me to think that one of those conversations would be near impossible right now. Let's hope I'll be able to pick it back up with a little review when I get back to the States. I'm going home in 6 days and I couldn't be happier.
Until Then

Perhaps one of the greatest thing about our summer in Japan was the commercials. I was fortunate to find a book while I was there that compiled a lot of the ones for the month of August 2004. So, I decided to finally scan in a few for you guys to enjoy.

So I've been at work all day, every day since the beginning of this summer. Then today, I decided to look for AFS friends, so I searched around. I'm fairly proud of my websearching abilities after this ordeal.

In any case, I'm Josh, I was in the *smart* class of IC Nagoya if that helps you remember. I really want to know where some people went off to, so I can stay in touch. I only have Siram's and Adam's AIM sn's, but I rarely get to talk to Siram, and Adam is never online. So basically, who else is here that I've now regained contact with? I'd really like to talk to Chris (who was with the Osaka crowd[maybe], I don't know his last name), Alex/Cassius/Pinky, James Russell, and you guys, but I found you, so wtfe.

Updates on my life, which you probably never heard about ever anyway:
I'll be going to Vassar College in Poughkeepsie, NY starting August 25.
I have a cellphone/internetthing/sexmachine called a T-Mobile Sidekick, since Christmas. I'm on AIM almost 24/7, and fairly reachable whenever you buzz me with an instant message. The sn there is joshukun, and my sn on my computer is aakuenjeru.
I didn't have much sushi in Japan, regrettably, but I craved it and other foods like korokke, soumen, and onigiri, shortly after my return. To quench the cravings, I've since made all those foods, and it rocks. I want to go back still though. I sure miss dinners in Japan...

neat, huh?

Natsu yasumi desu! One year ago... [Jul. 10th, 2005|02:58 pm]

One year ago, we were walking among the Japanese. We became part of a culture that wasn't previously ours, and we came to know ourselves better than we ever thought possible. One year ago, something new blended with something old, and we were reborn as travelers of the globe, better equipped than before to face the challenges that life handed us. We left Americans, and came back as citizens of the world. One year ago, we got over our phobias of public baths, ate food that was strange to us, bowed to people when we met them, and answered the phone with "moshi moshi." Lifelong friendships have been forged, the song of the Japanese cicada has been heard, and all of us learned at least something of a language that, for many, was previously unspoken. You are more than you were, and the summer will forever hold a place in my heart as the time of Japan.
